PUT THE GUIDE INTO PRACTICE

Your local setup workbook.

Eight copyable worksheets, fictional worked examples and a 20-step checklist. Keep your completed copy private.

Use with the beginner’s local SEO guide. Copy the blanks into your own document or spreadsheet. These are copyable Markdown worksheets, not an online account or automated tracking tool.

Keep completed working copies private. Never record passwords, recovery codes or Google verification evidence here. Use enquiry IDs rather than customer names in the marketing log, with any necessary contact details held separately in your protected job system. A public sample must contain fictional information only.

All completed examples concern Alex Rowan at Rowan Electrical, an entirely fictional business near York. Alex starts without reviews or customer case studies, works from a private home base that customers do not visit, offers planned domestic lighting changes and additional sockets, and covers York, Haxby and Wigginton. No 24-hour emergency service is offered. Dates below are fictional exercise dates, not evidence of completed business actions.

Homeowners Lighting changes York, Haxby, Wigginton Accept only suitable work within competence/capacity Electrician for new lights York Services section initially Alex; write actual scope; 10 September

Public description: Rowan Electrical provides planned domestic lighting changes and additional sockets in York, Haxby and Wigginton, subject to assessing the proposed work.
Contact hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm.
Urgent response: No advertised emergency service.
Internal response target: Alex checks messages between appointments and at the end of each working day; if unavailable, amend the acknowledgement to explain the actual arrangement.
Done when: In this exercise, Alex has checked the scope against the work and appointments the fictional business can accept. Suggested phrases are editorial examples, not measured demand.

Trading name: Rowan Electrical.
Phone/email/domain: Not assigned in this teaching example; no working contact details implied.
Public service area: York, Haxby and Wigginton.
Private address: Kept out of this worksheet.
Public-address decision: Travelling-only business; hidden Google address. Separate applicable business disclosures still need checking.
Next action: Alex checks registration, renewal and exit control before agreeing to a provider.

Worksheet 3: Google profile status and verification log

Use the guide’s access decision tree and Google’s verification instructions. Record what Google actually shows, rather than selecting a method from a generic checklist.

Copyable blank

Check Result/evidence reference Owner Next legitimate step/date
Existing-name, phone and previous-name search [Matched profile URL or none found] [ ] [ ]

Verification [Exact current state; private evidence location reference only] [ ] [ ]

Completed fictional example

Check Result/evidence reference Owner Next legitimate step/date

Verification Pending; method depends on what the real interface offers Alex Follow the offered step; check status on 12 September
Public visibility Not confirmed Alex Check public profile after verification outcome
Website Not launched Alex Add and test correct URL after launch

Parallel task while pending: draft the services/contact pages and prepare an enquiry test. This does not mean verification has passed or that search visibility is established.

Worksheet 4: honest proof and a real-job story

Copyable proof register

Proposed claim/image Evidence and source Permission/right to publish Status Owner/next check
[Exact claim or asset] [Private source reference] [Who granted what; date] [Ready/needs check/do not publish] [ ]

Completed fictional proof register

Proposed claim/image Evidence and source Permission/right to publish Status Owner/next check
Alex’s qualifications Qualification assumed by the teaching scenario; no real documents exist No real public claim authorised by this worksheet Replace with verified facts before any real business publication Alex; verify precise wording and relevant evidence
Owner portrait An original photo would need creating Owner and photographer rights to be checked Not ready Alex; arrange photo
Registration badge No registration specified in this example None established Do not publish Alex; check actual eligibility before any future claim
Customer review No customers/reviews in starting scenario None Do not publish Begin neutral requests only after real eligible work
Customer project No completed customer project in starting scenario None Do not publish Record first real completed job and permission

Copyable completed-job story

Job reference: [Private ID.]
Broad area: [Avoid publishing a customer’s exact address.]
Customer’s initial problem: [What they actually asked for.]
Work agreed and completed: [Factual scope.]
Your role: [Your business’s work, or accurately attributed permitted involvement.]
Relevant constraint: [What affected the work.]
Outcome and evidence: [What is supported, without invented savings or safety guarantees.]
Photos: [Asset references, photographer rights and customer/property permission.]
Customer approval for public wording: [Scope/date/reference.]
Publication decision: [Ready/hold; owner; next action.]

Completed fictional starting-state example

Job reference: None.
Problem/work/outcome: No completed customer project exists in this scenario.
Photos/permission: None collected.
Publication decision: Hold. Alex can publish honest process and verified personal credentials, but must wait for real work and permission before publishing a customer job story. This is the correct completed decision at this stage, not a missing testimonial to invent.

Worksheet 5: launch and enquiry test record

Copyable blank

Test Evidence/result Tester/date Pass or issue Owner/next action
Phone and desktop navigation/text [Device; route tested] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Call/email link [Correct destination] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Valid form submission [Test ID; receipt inbox; reply result] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Invalid/incomplete form [Useful error; entered data handled sensibly] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Services/coverage/proof [Fact-check evidence] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Privacy and installed tools [Notice matches actual processing/tools] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Search access [Provider/inspection finding: crawl, noindex, canonical] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Sitemap and important URL inspection [Submitted/inspection state; not ranking proof] [ ] [ ] [ ]
Profile website/contact connection [Public check or pending] [ ] [ ] [ ]

Completed fictional form-test example

Test Evidence/result Tester/date Pass or issue Owner/next action
Valid form TEST-001 submitted from a phone; received in intended test inbox; response returned to tester Alex; imagined later launch test Pass within fictional exercise only Exclude test from leads; remove test contact data when no longer needed
Incomplete form Missing contact method prompts a clear error Alex; same fictional exercise Pass within exercise Recheck after form changes
Public Google profile Still not confirmed Alex Pending, not pass Follow worksheet 3

This models how to record a test. It is not a claim that Rowan Electrical has a functioning real website, inbox or profile. Fill every blank test row with your own evidence before calling your real launch checked.

Worksheet 6: enquiry-to-job log

Copyable blank

ID Received Source/uncertainty Service/area First response Suitability/next step Quote state Job outcome Owner/review date
[ID, no name] [Date/time] [Customer report/tracked/unknown] [Minimum useful detail] [Date/time or pending] [Suitable/unsuitable/unknown; action] [Not yet/sent/declined] [Pending/booked/completed/lost with reason] [ ]

Completed fictional examples

ID Received Source/uncertainty Service/area First response Suitability/next step Quote state Job outcome Owner/review date
TEST-001 Exercise launch day, 10:00 Own form test Test only 10:15 Delivery and reply checked Not applicable Excluded from business counts Alex; remove test data when no longer needed
EXAMPLE-002 Fictional later day, 14:00 Customer says Google; exact result unknown Additional sockets; York 16:30 In area; arrange assessment conversation Not yet Pending; no booking claimed Alex; next working day

Keep necessary customer contact details in your protected job system, linked by ID. Use your actual retention decision and access controls. A call-button tap with no received call is not a new enquiry row. If one person calls and then fills the form about the same work, link the contacts rather than count two separate opportunities.

Copyable privacy and tracking decision record

Decision Your actual arrangement Evidence/next action Owner/recheck date
Purpose and necessary data [Why each field is needed; remove unnecessary fields] [ ] [ ]
Processing basis [Document the appropriate basis for each purpose; do not assume every purpose uses the same basis] [Source/advice to resolve uncertainty] [ ]
Storage, access and recipients [Job system/log; authorised people; relevant suppliers] [Check actual access and supplier arrangements] [ ]
Retention and deletion [Retention decision by purpose; deletion/anonymisation review] [ ] [ ]
Privacy notice [Location; date checked against actual processing] [Complete before collecting enquiries] [ ]
Website tools inventory [Forms, embeds, analytics, advertising tags and other storage/access tools, including none where applicable] [Check what is actually installed] [ ]
Tool-specific rule and controls [For each relevant tool: purpose/configuration, current source, consent or applicable exception decision, required controls] [Where consent is required, test blocking until consent; where an exception applies, verify every condition and any objection route] [ ]
Personal data in measurement [Check event names, fields and URLs exclude customer contact details/message text] [ ] [ ]

Use the guide’s linked current ICO sources. An uncompleted decision is an action to resolve, not permission to install a tool or begin collecting data.

Completed fictional privacy and tracking decision

Alex plans to collect a name, one contact method, postcode and short job description to handle requested work. Customer contact information will be kept in a protected job system; the marketing log will use enquiry IDs and minimal service/outcome information. The system/provider, authorised access, processing basis and retention schedule are not yet decided in this exercise and must be resolved before launch.

Visitor analytics and advertising tags are not installed in the example. That choice does not establish that the future website has no storage/access technologies: Alex still needs to inspect its form provider and any embeds. The privacy notice is not yet published. No consent or exception decision is claimed for an unspecified future tool.

Owner and next action: Alex completes the records above, checks the actual installed tools against current ICO guidance and implements the required controls before collecting real enquiries. Recheck after any supplier or tracking change.

Worksheet 7: useful listings, relationships and page decisions

Copyable blank

Opportunity Customer benefit Eligibility/real connection Address/cost/access check Evidence or permission needed Decision/owner/date
